Is your early childhood organization prepared to withstand changes in management? Succession planning is an important consideration for all early childhood leaders. In this Mat time episode, Marni Flaherty shares her personal story about how she successfully retired from her long-held position as CEO of Today’s Family Early Learning and Care. Marni walks through the steps she took to ensure the organization could continue to thrive after her departure.
These steps included board work like reviewing bylaws, updating policies, and ensuring leadership positions were filled by the right people. Today’s Family created a strategic plan and clarified the organization's direction and vision. With this new clarity they were able to identify gaps in their management, create new job descriptions, and work with HR specialists to recruit new leaders both externally and internally.
Once Today’s Family were prepared for the change, Marni’s final steps involved giving notice for her retirement and then her personal challenge of letting go of the organization that had meant so much to her for several decades.
